MEET BISHOP BLUE

The Early Years

Bishop Michael Blue was born in North Carolina and was reared from infancy in Sellers, South Carolina. He attended the Marion District One Schools. Upon his graduation in 1981, he enrolled in Francis Marion University, received his B.A. in English (1985), and in 1986 became an English instructor.

Bishop Blue’s spiritual heritage has been multifaceted: The Highway Church of Christ, until age 3; the New Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church until age 13; and that year he joined the Born Again Church at the Palmetto Deliverance Tabernacle, under the pastorate of the late Bishop John W. Barber. He preached his initial sermon in July of 1980 and was ordained an elder in August of 1987. He served his local church and the General Church in many different capacities.

Major Transition

The year of 1991 was a year of destiny for Bishop Blue: God gave him the word, Revelation 3:8, Behold, I have set before thee an open door He understood this to mean that major transition and opportunities for growth were imminent. Shortly thereafter, the fulfillment began to manifest. One of the most significant transitions was his marriage on June 8, 1991 to the former Ms. Malinda J. Tarte. To this union two children, Michala and Michael II (BJ), have been added.

A New Ministry is Born

Another great transition occurred when he began to teach a Bible study in August of the same year. This Bible study grew and evolved into a family of believers. Consequently, in February 1992, Elder Blue became the founding pastor of The Door of Hope Christian Church, in Marion, South Carolina. The church has experienced God’s favor in various dimensions: the erection of its present edifice, its influence in the community, and its continued passion for excellence in the fulfillment of the Great Commission. He was consecrated to the bishopric in December of 1997.

In December 2000, Bishop Blue became the founding prelate of the Christian Covenant of Ministries, a vital network of brothers and sisters, along with their ministries, who have come into communion for their mutual enhancement in the fulfillment of Divine purpose. This fellowship continues to flourish, to the edifying of the greater Body of Christ.

Bishop Michael Blue is a disciple, a husband, a father, a psalmist, a student of the Word. He desires to know Christ more intimately and to make Him known more fully.
